Why have gas prices dropped recently?

According to this new Washington Post-ABC News poll, the leading answer is "upcoming election/political reasons." What? The public has suspicions with the administration and the deep ties to Big Oil? It seemed like only yesterday that the public was buying into everything the administration said and today, the magic is gone. The pendulum is finally moving in the other direction.
