Bush wants lame duck Senate to confirm Gates and Bolton

The White House is trying to ram through the nominations of Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense and John Bolton as UN Ambassador while the GOP is still in control:

The White House said today that it would seek confirmation of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld’s successor in the lame duck Congress that is about to reconvene, and that it would seek confirmation of United Nations Ambassador John R. Bolton as well.

So, the White House talks about conciliation, while trying to prevent honest debate. What else will they try to ram through?
