The final steps or not

What I always love about history is that it always evolves. Who knows if this theory is correct? I recall being told the history of "the cross" during our visit to Jerusalem and it was chosen by Constantine's mother a few hundred years after the death of Jesus. She had three crosses brought to her and ultimately chose "the cross" because a woman was healed in that spot, according to a local guide. Who are we to say it wasn't the right choice and if nothing else it gives us a great story and new debate.
