'Deafening silence' from networks on military analysts for hire

Surprise, the networks aren't covering a story about how they were duped by the Bush administration:
Even with countless media outlets available these days, a Sunday New York Times cover story could always be counted on to send a jolt through the television news cycle.

But apparently that’s no longer the case. Indeed, reporter David Barstow’s 7,600-word investigation of the Pentagon’s military analyst program — whereby ex-military talking heads, often with direct ties to contractors, parroted Defense Department talking points on the air — has been noticeably absent from television airwaves since the story broke on April 20.

While bloggers have kept the story simmering, Democratic congressional leaders also are speaking out, calling for investigations that could provoke the networks to finally cover the Times story — and, in effect, themselves.

This is some astonishing technology. Doesn't seem like it'd be very hard to put, say, a gun on the top of this thing . . .

But here's the craziest part for me: It looks so much like a living thing that I found myself feeling bad when it slipped. That's pretty weird, right?

Bush's Defense Dept. setting up "war room" -- to spin the war, not figure out how to end it

If the Bush administration spent a fraction of the time on Iraq policy that spends on Iraq politics and p.r., we might not be in this mess. Their latest venture is setting up a full time spin operation at the Pentagon:
Shaping the Bush administration’s message on the Iraq war has taken on new fervor, just as anticipation is building for the September progress report from top military advisers.

For the Pentagon, getting out Iraq information will now include a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week Iraq Communications Desk that will pump out data from Baghdad — serving as what could be considered a campaign war room.
A campaign war room for the war. That's the Bush administration in action.
